Since September 2010, this blog has recorded the journey of this music junkie as I attempt to listen to all the music in my CD collection. CDs revisited in their entirety from start to finish - no skipping tracks, no shuffle. Compact Discs only - no vinyl, no tapes, no files.

Various Artists - Rock of the 80's, Vol. 7 (1993)

Note: I'm aware the proper placement of the apostrophe in the title should be before the 8 ('80s), but apparently Priority Records was not.

Sure, I've got most of these tracks on other discs, but what's a guy to do when he sees an '80s compilation available for a buck? Low on actual product (9 tracks, 38 minutes), it turns out there are 4 cuts new to my CD collection, including a new favorite as well as one I could do without.

Peak on the US Billboard Top 200 chart: Did not chart

Tracks, with both Billboard Hot 100 and Rock chart peaks along with links to previous appearances on this blog:

Here's my thoughts on the aforementioned 4 first-timers:
  • I've Been In Love Before: this is the one I could do without.
  • Stand Or Fall (Live): Even though I caught their act in the summer of '84 on the Phantom tour, I've never heard the band's 1987 album, React. Now I kinda want to check it out.
  • A Girl In Trouble (Is A Temporary Thing): I'm in possession of the group's 1984 LP, Instincts, from which this single was taken. I rarely listen to the thing because of the saxophone playing, but this cut is definitely the best track on the record and rivals Never Say Never as the group's best release.
  • Heaven (Must Be There): I barely remember this tune from '84, but was recently reminded of it when it was recently named the sixth best song of 1984 over at Music Of My Life. However, as I've spun this disc on the regular over the past few weeks, I've completely fallen in love with its bouncy New Wave sound, especially that chorus. Eurogliders is an odd name choice for an Australian group, but I've heard odder. Also odd - Billboard comparing the band to Abba and Fleetwood Mac:

Personal Memory Associated with this CD: A quartet of tracks from 1984 tracks here, which takes me back to that particular year in which I graduated high school and headed off to university. I've written about a few personal experiences during 1984 over at My Favorite Decade.
