72 minute compilation of recordings from Marsalis's jazz albums. Selections are, well, standards and ballads. Mostly standards plus a couple of Marsalis originals utilizing everything from a quintet to a full orchestra. As described over at the musician's website:
Drawing from previous Columbia albums that were originally released between 1983 and 1999, this compilation serves as a best of collection when it comes to jazz’s traditional partnership with the romantic song. It’s a love-fest. What’s more, trumpeter Wynton Marsalis shares his passion for these fourteen chestnuts with his audience fluently, readily and sincerely.I own Volumes 2 & 3 of the Standard Time series and I'm surprised to discover those have yet to be featured here. Stay tuned. And why didn't Columbia ever throw together a 6 disc box set of that series?
