Since September 2010, this blog has recorded the journey of this music junkie as I attempt to listen to all the music in my CD collection. CDs revisited in their entirety from start to finish - no skipping tracks, no shuffle. Compact Discs only - no vinyl, no tapes, no files.

A Dave Brubeck Christmas (1996)

New to me this year. Just Brubeck, a piano, and (mostly) familiar tunes. A little bit of something for everybody: some stride piano, some cocktail piano, some New Age, some lullaby, some jazz with wild chord substitutions, etc. Brubeck somehow manages to make old tunes new again without sacrificing melody or mood. Relaxing, restorative, recommended.

Liner notes written by Brubeck himself.

Ratings:
  • The Penguin Guide to Jazz (5th ed., 2000): ★★★
  • The Virgin Encyclopedia of Jazz (1999): ★

Album chart peaks:
  • US Billboard 200: Did not chart
  • Billboard Jazz: #3

Tracks: 14 of 'em in 56 minutes and don't skip a one.

Personal Memory Associated with this CD: None

  1. I managed a CD store in the '90s and this was a very pleasant surprise among the Kenny G and Mariah Carey. Thanks for the reminder!
