Since September 2010, this blog has recorded the journey of this music junkie as I attempt to listen to all the music in my CD collection. CDs revisited in their entirety from start to finish - no skipping tracks, no shuffle. Compact Discs only - no vinyl, no tapes, no files.

Various Artists - Jeep Grand Cherokee Infinity Gold Audio System (1993)

A box of used CDs recently arrived here at blog headquarters, the generous gift from a long-time reader. (With apologies to Emma Lazarus: "Give me your used, your unplayed, your discarded masses yearning to be heard.") Of those CDs, this disc caught my eye almost immediately. For you young 'uns, when CD players were initially released, they were so new and different they often came with demo discs such as these. I remember my friend Richard buying a home CD component in 1988 and it came with a demo disc that opened with Strauss' Thus Spake Zarathustra. A predictable choice, but it was my first CD experience and I'll never forget the sound pouring out from his Advent speakers.

Seems hard to believe now, but there was a time when it was rare for a CD player to come standard in a new vehicle. This disc is copyrighted 1993 by Sony, so I'm guessing it was for inclusion with the 1994 model Jeep. You didn't ask, but my first car CD player was a Sony aftermarket unit I had installed in my 1992 Ford Explorer. Coincidentally, that would have happened in late 93, around the time this disc was "released."

Peak on the US Billboard Top 200 chart: Did not chart

A little something for everybody there, unless you like jazz. Sony had access to the Miles Davis Columbia catalog and they couldn't throw on Straight, No Chaser or something like that? Shame.
