Since September 2010, this blog has recorded the journey of this music junkie as I attempt to listen to all the music in my CD collection. CDs revisited in their entirety from start to finish - no skipping tracks, no shuffle. Compact Discs only - no vinyl, no tapes, no files.

Be Still My Soul: The Ultimate Hymns Collection (1996)

WISH LIST WEEK* (AUGUST 10-16, 2015)

Faithful readers of The CD Project might remember that I'm a preacher's kid. As such, I'd wager that my church attendance record is above average (but I believe if God takes attendance, we're all in big trouble). Anyway, I grew up singing these hymns every weekend; they're a big part of my upbringing. For the past 8 years, I've been playing keyboards with the praise band at our church, so I haven't been hearing these traditional hymns and I've been missing them. This CD was purchased so I can revisit these old friends and, if this week is any indication, driving around in a pickup truck singing old hymns loudly isn't an uncommon sight in East Texas.

I've thoroughly enjoyed hearing these hymns again. The only downside is that the CD isn't consistent in terms of sound. Recording dates vary (1963-1988), which means equipment varies, and while the performances are good, the recording quality and volume greatly differ from track to rack, sending me to the volume control knob for each hymn.

Personal Memory Associated with this CD: None

*My money earned for teaching summer school usually pays for the family summer vacation. This year, however, we decided to forgo the usual vacay and spend money updating things around the house (the wife has been watching a lot of HGTV). Anyway, there was a little money left over, so I went over to Amazon and bought every CD available on my wish list, some of which had been on said list for over four years. This week, I'll be featuring some of these new-to-me discs; listening to many of them for the first time.

  1. Mark's "Personal Memory Associated With This CD: None"... But 'Personal MEMORIES Associated With This MUSIC'?: Priceless.

...Once again illustrating the unbreakable bond we all have with music.

    Like this one, Kid™.
