Since September 2010, this blog has recorded the journey of this music junkie as I attempt to listen to all the music in my CD collection. CDs revisited in their entirety from start to finish - no skipping tracks, no shuffle. Compact Discs only - no vinyl, no tapes, no files.

Selections From Fantasia And Other Disney Music Classics (1990)

Well, it appears I've somehow stumbled across one of those promotional/demo CDs that were often included with the purchase of a new CD player in the late '80s/early '90s. A popular sales device at the time, done because people often didn't have any CDs to play on their new equipment (unlike this guy, who purchased a couple of CDs first, then a CD player the following month).

Billboard, October 13, 1990, p. 64

Buy a new Pioneer CD player and blast Disney show tunes loud enough to make your analog neighbors madly jealous.

Tracks:

Because the Tchaikovsky suite was recorded in the 1940s, the sound quality isn't very good, which makes it an puzzling choice for a promo CD. For cultural reasons, I would imagine a recording of Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah is difficult to find these days, but the last cut, Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, reminds me that Julie Andrews is a treasure and now I'm off to listen to The Sound of Music movie soundtrack for the gajillioneth time.

Personal Memory Associated with this CD: We must have had a copy of the Mary Poppins soundtrack in my house during my younger years, most likely the 'See, Hear, Read' record pictured below. That cover looks familiar and I was able to sing along with Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious immediately, remembering all the words.
