A few years back, I wrote the following:
Still true today. So when I saw this compilation CD in the used bin (on the Rhino label, no less!), I grabbed it and didn't mind paying a little more than usual for a used disc ($7.19, if you're wondering). There are at least 25 Kinks compilations and none I've found are as complete as they should be. For this disc, we're treated to mono recordings of the band's singles and b-sides from the years 1964-1966, in non-chronological order: "all of the Kinks' essential garage rockers and British Invasion singles are here." For the record, your humble blogger wasn't on this earth until 1966, but that doesn't mean he doesn't recognize a great guitar riff or harmony vocal when he hears it. He also seems to slip into third person mid-paragraph at times.

*I'm not too proud to admit that my familiarity with Pretenders and Van Halen covers influenced my opinion on these tunes.

Personal Memory Associated with this CD: None, but I'm betting this thing takes up residence in my vehicle's CD player until at least September. I need to spend more time with these tunes. At a loud volume. Preferably on the open road.
