Since September 2010, this blog has recorded the journey of this music junkie as I attempt to listen to all the music in my CD collection. CDs revisited in their entirety from start to finish - no skipping tracks, no shuffle. Compact Discs only - no vinyl, no tapes, no files.

Yes - The Definitive Rock Collection (2007)

My love for Asia not withstanding, I'm not much of a prog rock guy, so a 2 CD set clocking in at over 2½ hours is definitely overkill for me. 26 tracks covering the band's output from 1969 - 2001. Very similar to the 2004 compilation The Ultimate Yes - 35th Anniversary Collection. I don't love it, but I don't hate it - which, judging from what I've read on online reviews and message boards, is more than I can say for most hardcore Yes fans.

Peak on the US Billboard Top 200 chart:  Did not chart

Tracks:  I bought this compilation because I wanted recordings of I've Seen All Good People and Roundabout. The 3 songs from 90215 are good, but I already had them. I also dig the songs from Big Generator, but I'm very disappointed that the 1987 Top 40 hit, Love Will Find A Way isn't included here. I probably should have just bought the downloads of those songs, but [shrug] I'm a CD guy. Wait - is that a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's America? Wha??

I once owned a CD copy of the 1980 Yes album, Drama, because the band at that time included Buggles Geoffrey Downes and Trevor Horn. That CD was listened to twice (at most) before being sold. Only one track from that album made this compilation, Tempus Fugit.

Personal Memory Associated with this CD:  None. This is one of those purchases that I don't necessarily regret, but leaves me scratching my head.

  1. It's very strange and weird that I bought Highlights - The Very Best of Yes for the same two songs you mention above: "I've Seen All Good People" and "Roundabout". Had them on vinyl but this was a $3.99 CD in the early Nineties so I took the leap.
