A fantastic compilation of music by the man known as the "Gentle Genius," focusing on his solo work in the 1970s. There are numerous Mayfield box sets available - most include earlier work with The Impressions - but if you're looking for a single disc primer on this award-winning* musician, you can't do better than this 1997 Rhino release. 16 tracks, 75 minutes.

I wouldn't have minded the inclusion of Beautiful Brother Of Mine (#45 R&B, 1972), Mother's Son (#15 R&B, 1974), and Sweet Exorcist (#32 R&B, 1974), but there aren't any tracks I'd delete to make room of those three. For the record, my favorite Mayfield single is (and always has been) Superfly.
