Since September 2010, this blog has recorded the journey of this music junkie as I attempt to listen to all the music in my CD collection. CDs revisited in their entirety from start to finish - no skipping tracks, no shuffle. Compact Discs only - no vinyl, no tapes, no files.

Various Artists - 98.9 Smooth Jazz KWJZ Benefit CD Sampler, Vol. 8 (2004)

As the title suggests, here we've got a smooth jazz benefit CD from Seattle's former KWJZ radio station with proceeds going to fund music scholarships at Music Works Northwest, a non-profit community music school in Bellevue. The station left the smooth format and changed its call sign around 2010 - it is currently country station KNUC (98.9 The Bull). I can't confirm any numbers, but a quick search suggests there were at least eleven volumes in the KWJZ benefit CD sampler series between 1996-2007.

While they've been replaced by "curated streaming playlists," I still dig sampler CDs because 1) they're cheap/easy to find, 2) great variety, 3) to me, they still serve the purpose of introduction to artists I may not have heard otherwise, and 4) I've got a CD addiction to feed (I've even been called a "CD Junkie").

Peak on the US Billboard Top 200 chart: Did not chart

Tracks: 13 tracks, 58 minutes.
  1. Puerto Banus by Jazzmasters from the 2003 album Jazzmasters 4.
  2. Moomba by Richard Elliot from the 1999 album Chill Factor.
  3. Unity by Marc Antoine from the 1994 album Classical Soul.
  4. West Hamilton Groove by Walter Beasley from the 2003 album Go With The Flow.
  5. Before Dawn by Joyce Cooling from the 1999 album the Keeping Cool.
  6. Honey Dipped by Dave Koz from the 2003 album Saxophonic.
  7. Hyde Park by Jeff Kashiwa from the 2000 album Another Door Opens.
  8. Night Vision by Pieces Of A Dream from the 2001 album Acquainted With The Night.
  9. Ain't No Stoppin' by Gerald Albright from the 2002 album Groovology.
  10. Who's That Lady by Peter White from the 2001 album Glow.
  11. Take My Heart by Jimmy Sommers from the 2003 album Lovelife.
  12. Bella Luna by The Rippingtons from the 2003 album Let It Ripp.
  13. Pleasure Seeker by Paul Taylor from the 1997 album Pleasure Seeker.
It's a solid compilation so it's easy to just hit play and go about your business. There's a few cuts I recognize from radio airplay (e.g., Unity, Hyde Park, Pleasure Seeker) and some covers (Who's That Lady, Take My Heart) but all tracks are new to my CD shelves.

Personal Memory Associated with this CD: None
